A joint team consisting of the city of San Antonio and Sundt Construction is set to begin a $62m project to expand the Hausman Road in San Antonio, US.

The scheme will expand 3.4 miles of Hausman Road, from North Loop 1604 to Interstate-10, reported Bizjournals.com.

The project is the city’s first-ever design-build road improvement project. It will expand the road from two lanes to four to create two lanes of traffic in each direction.

It will incorporate a drainage median in the center and add a proper sewage piping along the entire length of road.

The project will add left turn lanes, five bridges, curbs, driveway approaches, traffic signals, flood control measures, water quality systems in line with Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone requirements, and utility upgrades throughout the corridor.

It will also establish sidewalks, bike lanes, hike trials, and a cycling trail that will link with the Leon Creek Greenway Trail on the North side.

The expansion plan is the largest single road project approved by the voters in the 2012 San Antonio Bond election.

The project is expected to be completed in 18 months.

San Antonio is contributing $43.5m, Bexar County is paying $16.8m, and $1.66m is being paid through 2007 Bond savings.

Sundt Construction along with partners URS Corp. and Civil Engineering Consultants (CEC) were selected as the design-build team for the project, which was in the planning since 2007.
