Waze, a traffic and navigation app owned by Google, has started its new car pooling service in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, US.

This app is exclusively made available for the 25,000 employees of various companies including Adobe and Walmart Global eCommerce working in the Bay Area, reported Traffictechnologytoday.com.

With this app, the workers can locate and share cars, as well as pay 54 cents per mile easily without carrying cash for taking a car trip with other commuters travelling the same route.

"San Francisco is the second city where Waze is launching its car pooling service app."

This fee has been decided by the US Internal Revenue Service.

Waze has 50 million users, who use the app to to send and receive updates and information on traffic so that they can plan their journey accordingly.

In its blog, Waze said that the car pool service can provide, "an automated and sustainable transportation solution for their employees, less morning and evening congestion at corporate facilities, reduced strain on parking spots and spaces and a relaxed opportunity for co-workers to socialise and network."

Waze also added: "Thanks to our advanced mapping capabilities, the platform connects carpool partners from the same local community, making it easy to carpool with neighbours and colleagues you know or haven’t met yet."
