The National Freeway Bureau (NFB) in Taiwan said that a graphic display system (GDS) would be installed to help control traffic on the nation’s major freeways next month.

The GDS will have 24 televisions at the Taishan Control Centre in New Taipei City, and receives images and information flow to monitor real-time traffic conditions nationwide.

The system receives real-time road conditions data from about 4,000 speed monitors installed along the freeways, and automatically interprets the information.

The GDS can also exchange information efficiently, and transfer urgent information, such as road conditions by callers to the Police Radio Station to the roadways monitoring agencies, according to taipeitimes.com.

The new system has also enabled the creation of an instant traffic updates service for users of National Freeway No. 5, between Taipei to Yilan County.
