The construction of the second phase of State Route 905 (SR-905) project in California has begun.

The project’s Phase 1B was funded $76.8m through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Out of the total amount, $74.3m was funded from the federal economic stimulus package.

The work on SR-905 will involve construction of three-miles of the six-lane freeway from Britannia Boulevard to Interstate 805 (I-805) and an interchange at Caliente Avenue.

It also includes the building of new off-ramps at Britannia Boulevard.

The complete project will cost $620m and includes construction of eight miles of a new six-lane freeway alignment.

In addition, California will receive about $2.6bn for highways and local streets and $1bn for transit projects.
