Dutch firm TomTom has unveiled its new turn-by-turn spoken personal navigation software for Apple’s iPhone 3G and 3GS models.

The software uses TomTom’s in-house map data and advanced planning algorithms to tell routes and directions.

The software also uses IQ Routes technology to calculate the fastest method to travel between locations.

According to the company, the technology will allow travellers to reach their destinations 35% faster as it covers every road segment ranging from large expressways to small roads.

The software supports portrait and landscape display modes and multi-touch gestures such as tap, pinch and swipe. It also supports night and day colour modes, which optimise screen visibility under a variety of lighting conditions.

The company also plans to launch a car kit for hands-free navigation, which will feature a built-in loudspeaker to give loud and clear voice instructions.
