US firm TrafficTalk has unveiled a new voice-based, mobile traffic information application that allows drivers to communicate with each other and pass on traffic information.

The patent-pending technology, VoiceSocial, allows for localised group conversations among drivers within a particular area through cell phones, thus forming an audio conference environment, which could be used to avoid traffic jams.

The company says the technology provides little distraction to drivers allowing them to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

The company is now planning to deploy the application nationwide by partnering with other companies.
