UK Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis is planning to allow the use of small electric personal vehicles (EPVs) on public roads and cycle tracks.

A public consultation on the issue has been launched and the proposal, if approved, will change the existing road traffic law, which allows the use of EPVs only on private land with the landowner’s permission.

“New technologies can offer new opportunities and this consultation offers the chance for a full consideration of the issues around electric personal vehicles,” said Adonis.

The consultation does not include consideration of their use on pedestrian footways or footpaths.
