Balfour Beatty subsidiary Gammon Construction has announced it has been awarded the HK$2.5bn (US$297.5m) contract to widen the Tolo and Fanling Highways in Hong Kong.

Work is due to commence in February 2010 and involves widening a 3.5km section of the highway between Ma Wo and Tai Hang.

The project also includes modifying or demolishing five existing bridges and the construction of eight new ones and is expected to last 40 months.

Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said they were delighted to have been awarded this contact and looked forward to delivering the high quality, safe and environmentally responsible construction work.
