The UK’s new Minister of State for Transport, Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers MP, has confirmed that ‘super lorries’ will not be permitted to travel on UK roads.

The super lorries, so called because of their size, are seen as a crucial threat to the rail haulage industry because of their increased load in comparison to regular road haulage methods.

Although there are no current plans to mandate their legality on a Europe-wide basis, Villiers, speaking at the Annual Rail Freight Group Conference, said that the new coalition government would resist their approval, should it arise in the future.
