The Massachusetts Department of Transportation in the US will reconstruct the Anderson Memorial Bridge under the state’s $3bn Accelerated Bridge Program.

The proposed construction process will renovate the 97-year-old bridge connecting Harvard Square and Boston to accommodate three lanes instead of four.

The four-stage rehabilitation will see three lanes of traffic run the length between Harvard Square and Boston along with two 5ft bike paths running in both directions.

The Accelerated Bridge Program plans to rehabilitate a series of structurally inefficient bridges over an eight-year period, according to thecrimson.com.
