J H Lynch & Sons and D’Ambra Construction has received contracts for two resurfacing projects from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) in the US.

The two projects aim to boost sections of Route 4 and Route 1 in North Kingstown and South Kingstown, respectively.

Valued at $2.8m, the Route 4 project contract features a 5% budget contingency of $140,000, and requires the company to resurface approximately 2.5m of Route 4, from Route 1 in North Kingstown to just north of the Oak Hill Road intersection.

This stretch of road carries around 54,000 vehicles a day and was last resurfaced in 1998.

"Projects like this can go a long way toward turning around Rhode Island’s reputation as a sub-par transportation state."

The project is currently underway and is scheduled to reach substantial completion by the end of this year, and will create 85 jobs throughout its duration.

Featuring a 5% budget contingency of $95,000, the $1.9m Route 1 project contract covers resurfacing of a 1m section of Route 1 in South Kingstown from the Stedman Government Centre to Route 108, as well as the associated on and off-ramps to Old Tower Hill Road,

Capable of carrying nearly 40,000 vehicles a day, this section of Route 1 was last resurfaced in the early 1990s.

Preliminary work is scheduled to start this week, while the project will reach substantial completion in mid-2016.

RIDOT director Peter Alviti Jr said: "The condition of our roadways is an important part of our state’s economic health.

"This administration has placed a high-priority on developing a system that will help bring our roads and bridges into a state of good repair and providing the maintenance that is necessary to keep them that way.

"Projects like this can go a long way toward turning around Rhode Island’s reputation as a sub-par transportation state."

The department has ensured that the project work will not interfere with the remainder of the busy summer travel season.

According to the department, at least two lanes in each direction must remain open on Route 4 during the week through September, with all lanes open from Friday night to Sunday night.
