The New Hampshire Department of Transportation has announced that construction works have begun on the Spaulding Turnpike in Connecticut, US.

Focusing on the road's Newington-Dover corridor, the project includes the widening of the Spaulding Turnpike from the Woodbury Avenue interchange to a point 3,000ft past the Dover Toll Plaza.

Upon completion of the project, an eight lane road will be created between Exit 3 and Exit 6 on the Spaulding Turnpike, providing the final roadway to the new Little Bay Bridges.

"Staging areas, erosion control measures and embankments will also be built."

The works will also include the rebuilding of the Exit 6 interchange, which comprises the replacement of the US Route 4 Bridge and the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Route 4 and Boston Harbor Road.

Improvements will be made to the Dover Point and Boston Harbor roads, and soundwalls will be constructed from the Little Bay Bridge to a point north of the Dover Toll Plaza.

Staging areas, erosion control measures and embankments will also be built near Exit 6 to facilitate the construction of soundwalls and the new Route 4 bridge.

Severino Trucking will serve as the general contractor to the $67m project, which is scheduled for completion in October 2020.
