TransCore has secured a $100m transportation project from Saudi Arabia’s Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) to design and implement an advanced traffic control system in Riyadh.

The contract requires TransCore to deploy its TransSuite software solution in order to manage traffic signal operations at 350 of Riyadh’s intersections.

The system will automatically adjust traffic signal timing with respect to real-time traffic conditions.

TransCore will integrate its TransSuite Advanced Traffic Management System with an adaptive control system to reduce congestion in Riyadh.

The software-based solution will unite data, real-time communications and analytics to handle the routine and unpredicted traffic conditions.

"TransCore’s solution will enable us to quickly adjust to real-time traffic conditions, providing a safer, more efficient roadway network."

Agencies will be allowed to communicate quickly in order to respond to an emergency or abnormality.

ADA strategic studies department manager Abdulaziz Alghannam said: "Deploying an advanced traffic management system is a critical step in our plan to improve and manage the flow of traffic throughout Riyadh.

"TransCore’s solution will enable us to quickly adjust to real-time traffic conditions, providing a safer, more efficient roadway network."

TransCore president Tracy Marks said: "This project will be a benchmark for adaptive traffic management on a large scale, and we’re pleased to have the opportunity to be a part of such an innovative project."

TransCore has first opened an office in the Middle East in 2006, when it designed the Salik toll system for Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority.
