The Utah Department of Transportation in the US will upgrade State Road 108 into a three-lane roadway to improve road safety and traffic flow in the region.

The $15m project is to be carried out by Granite Construction and will include the widening of the road, which involves one lane in each direction with a centre-turn lane.

The road is also used as a north-south travel corridor for the western communities of Davis County and Weber County.

The project includes resurfacing and chip-sealing the nine-mile stretch of roadway, adding right-turn lanes at key intersections.

The work will begin this week and is expected to be completed by August with some remaining work to be completed by 2010.
