The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has awarded a $128.6m contract to Swedish company Skanska to build a dual road tunnel in the western part of the country.

The Strindheim road tunnel on the E6 highway between Trondheim and Stjørdal will be built from scratch.

It will require two access tunnels at a length of 740m, a large interchange, paving works as well as the installation of electricity, ventilation and signal systems.

Work is expected to begin in January next year and finish in December 2013.
