Montenegro has awarded a €1.57bn ($2bn) highway construction contract to a Greek-Israeli consortium.

The work involves building a 170km-long cross country highway, according to lse.co.uk.

The highway is expected to connect the Adriatic port of Bar with the Serbian border.

Construction of a 63.5km-long highway is also included in the contract and is expected to be completed within four years.

Construction works will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The EIB is also expected to co-finance two smaller highway sections.

The consortium includes Athens-based Aktor Concessions and Israeli company Shikun & Binui.
