British Columbia in Canada has signed a road contract with the Fraser Transportation Group for the completion of the South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR) project.

Under the $658m 20-year PPP contract, Fraser will undertake the final design, construction and eventual operation of the 40km, four-lane SFPR.

The SFPR is expected to improve economic prospects in Delta and Surrey, as well as develop the region’s trading connection with the Asia-Pacific.

The project is considered the largest environmental and agricultural mitigation plan for a highway construction project in British Columbia.

The SFPR project, which is part of the Province’s Gateway Program to develop effective transportation in the country, is expected to be completed by 2013.
