The island of Phuket in Thailand will install speed cameras in the region as part of a road safety initiative undertaken by the government.

Six sets of the speed cameras will be installed along two main routes of Phuket including Thepkrasattri Road (route 402) and the Bypass Road where many accidents have occurred.

The new devices will check, record and print out the police summons for the police to fine speeding drivers.

The systems are expected to reduce accidents and help to change driving behaviour, according to phuketnews.phuketindex.com.

The Phuket provincial administrative organisation will invest THB10m ($321,030) to support the installation of speed cameras and related devices.
