Roads in the UK will be fitted with ‘intelligent’ speed cameras to crack down on speeding vehicles, under a new Highways Agency initiative.

The new cameras do not flash and can cover multiple lanes at once.

Offending drivers will only know they have been caught after they receive the penalty notice.

The new cameras would also detect speeding lorries as they can differentiate between trucks and cars, unlike the cameras currently used on UK roads.

Installation of the new cameras, which can cover multiple lanes, would be carried out over the next 18 months.
