German traffic technology provider PTV said it will be supporting ViaMichelin’s traffic information services by means of floating car data (FCD).

The wholly-owned subsidiary of Michelin will use PTV’s floating car data to supplement its existing permanent detectors.

Installed along motorways and trunk roads, the detectors do not cover the entire road and information network.

The cars are turned into mobile sensors as the FCD is transmitted from vehicles on the road.

The method gives exact information about the driving speed on a specific route, also converting it into detailed traffic data for the entire road network of France.

PTV’s TrafficPlatform, used in the new system, delivers methods for traffic analyses and forecasts.

It can model current and expected traffic conditions based on real-time data.
