CoPilot

ALK Technologies, a US-based developer of mobile navigation, transportation and travel technology solutions, is set to launch its CoPilot GPS navigation smartphone and tablet apps for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.

CoPilot will provide advanced navigation features such as dependable voice-guided GPS that can help make the journey easier.

The app, which will act as an alternative to traditional in-vehicle navigation systems, will offer a complete range of advanced turn-by-turn guidance features, in addition to comprehensive trip planning, and automotive-grade street maps stored in the device for offline use.

Other features of CoPilot include 3D map views with lane arrows and signpost displays, CoPilot ClearTurn for complex intersections, advanced trip planning with a choice of three routes, and drag-and-drop route editing.

The app’s integral real-time ‘Live’ services include ActiveTraffic, Yelp, Wikipedia, and Google Search to keep drivers informed on the road.

ActiveTraffic calculates the fastest routes and accurate arrival times based on live traffic flow data, while Yelp, Wikipedia and Google help in comprehensive local research. Users can also buy global map regions to store on the device as required.

ALK Technologies consumer applications head David Quin said that CoPilot was originally developed for Microsoft’s Pocket PC and started mobile navigation on Windows Mobile.

"The Windows family of mobile devices is rapidly gaining momentum as an alternative to Android and iOS, and provides an ideal platform for us to deliver a full-featured and driver-friendly CoPilot navigation experience," Quin said.

The app will be available on the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store from summer 2013 with the following versions – CoPilot Premium, a paid app that includes turn-by-turn navigation and 12 months ActiveTraffic; CoPilot GPS, a free offline trip-planning and maps app with in-app purchase for turn-by turn navigation; and CoPilot Truck for truck-specific GPS navigation.

The company noted that the pricing will be in-line with existing CoPilot apps for iOS and Android.
