The Slovak company Granvia Consortium has entered into a 30-year, €1bn public-private partnership with the Government of Slovakia for the construction of the 52km-long R1 expressway.

The expressway will connect the cities of Nitra and Tekovské Nemce and bypass the city of Banská Bystrica in Slovakia.

The contract will cover financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the expressway, consisting of four separate sections.

The consortium comprises VINCI Concessions and the AA Highway Private Equity Fund.
