US-based firm Iteris AutoVue’s lane departure warning (LDW) system will be used in the UK to warn motorists if they are involuntarily drifting out of their lane.

The small, integrated system uses a camera, onboard computer, and sophisticated image processing algorithms.

The camera tracks visible lane markings and the algorithms detect when a vehicle drifts toward an unintended lane change.

A distinctive rumble strip or audible warning will be emitted alerting the driver to make a correction.

LDW will help the UK to save lives, make highways safer, and provide a positive financial return for fleet owners, the company says.

Iteris has signed an agreement with Magnum Fleet Services to distribute the system to the commercial truck market.
