Poland’s national authority for roads GDDKiA has brought the contract for work on the A2 Strykow-Konotopa stretch down to PLN 5.7bn (€1.4bn), from an estimated PLN 3.2bn (€784.3m).

The stretch is part of the A2 Lodz-Warsaw motorway. Work on the section has been divided into five parts and will be carried out by different firms.

China Overseas Engineering Group will carry out work on the first PLN754.5m (€184.9m) section as well as on the third PLN534.5m (€131m) section.

Contract for the second PLN843.5m (€206.7m) section has been awarded to a Mostostal Warszawa-led consortium and a Strabag-led consortium has won the fourth PLN643.8m (€157.8m) section contract.

Finally, a Budimex Dromex-led consortium will carry out work on the PLN 425.5m (€104.3m) fifth section.

Work on the project is expected to begin in autumn and finish by May 2012.
