French group Safran subsidiary Sagem Sécurité has signed a deal with Russian firm United Telecom to supply automatic speed control radars for Belarus.

The deal includes the supply of 110 MESTA radars, which will be deployed along the M1 expressway between Poland and Russia, and an automated ticket processing centre.

The installation of the radars is expected to significantly improve safety on the expressway by enabling Belarusian authorities to rapidly process all speeding violations, since drivers will have to pay their tickets as soon as they leave the country.
