Campaigners in the UK have recommended the Highways Agency to reduce the number of road signs claiming they distract motorists.

The Plain English Campaign has deemed messages such as, “not to become a statistic”, “don’t drink and drive” and “think bike” as confusing, distracting and a waste of money.

The group has argued that drivers can ignore repeated speed limit restriction signs, which could cause them to miss something important further down the road, according to express.co.uk.

It has complained against 30mph restriction signs, which are accompanied by flashing lights and the advisory messages on digital message boards on motorways.
