Flintshire County Council in Wales has introduced a hidden camera pilot scheme around schools to protect school children and help with prosecutions.

Under the scheme, hidden cameras (or “lollicams”) will be fitted in the lollipop sticks used by traffic wardens.

The lollicams activate when the pole touches the ground and can be pointed towards driving offenders to record their number plates.

The scheme has been introduced in Wales following similar successful trials in England and Scotland.

The scheme has also been introduced after some drivers have been noticed ignoring or abusing crossing patrol staff in Wales.

Lollipop patrols have the same legal force as a red traffic light, and drivers caught disobeying the law, or failing to stop for a school crossing patrol face a fine of £1,000 ($1,538) and get two penalty points on their licence.
